Background and aims

WONCA World 2025 and the Young Doctors' Movement, are providing financial support for young family physicians throughout the region and to foster their integration into the international community of general practitioners. The remarkable influence and resilience of WONCA World and the YDM communities stem from the diversity of their members. While each member is equally valuable, true equality requires equity.

The Fund has been established to level the playing field for participation in the WONCA World Conference and YDM Preconference 2025 in Lisbon. We specifically utilize the Fund to assist young Family Physicians who otherwise would be unable to attend the conference on financial grounds. We firmly believe that involvement in these events can enhance the motivation to excel as a physician and facilitate the creation of a robust network of family doctors across the continent.

Our objective is to fortify Primary Care by empowering, inspiring, and connecting its general practitioners.

Refund

There are two WONCA bursary schemes for the young family doctors. Each will be administered separately.

• WONCA World Young Family Doctors – for attendees from outside Europe.

• European Young Family Doctors' Movement (EYFDM) – for attendees from Europe.

WONCA World Young Family Doctors’ Movement Bursary

• Two bursaries of up to €2500 will be issued.

• Applicants must be a Young Family Physician registered with a WONCA National Member Organisation not in the WONCA Europe Region.

• Updates will be provided via the WONCA World Young Family Doctors’ Movement Social Media channels [https://www.instagram.com/woncaydm/ and https://www.facebook.com/woncaydm/.

WONCA European Young Family Doctors’ Movement Bursary

• Five bursaries of up to €900 will be issued.

• Applicants must be a Young Family Doctor registered with a WONCA Europe National Member Organisation.

• Updates will be provided via the EYFDM Newsletter and Social Media channels - you can register here

Bursary use

The final amount of the bursary given to the applicant will be decided by the Jury for each bursary. The refund can only be used towards:

• Registration fee for the YDM Preconference Lisbon 2025.

• Registration fee for the WONCA World Conference Lisbon 2025.

• The cost of flight tickets to YDM Preconference and WONCA World Conference 2025 in Lisbon.

• The cost of accommodation during YDM Preconference and WONCA World Conference 2025 in Lisbon.

Any costs in excess of the bursary allocation will need to be covered by the bursary holder.

Documents

• Application form (saved Name_AF_Lisbon2025_World or Name_AF_Lisbon2025_Europe). Please ensure you select the correct award form for the bursary scheme [World - YDM; Europe - EYFDM]. Please find the form below.
• Proof of a young doctor status from your WONCA National Membership Organisation: GP trainee or during the first 5 years after training (saved as Name_Status_Lisbon2025).
• Applicant’s picture (saved as Name_Picture_Lisbon2025).

All the application documents must be sent to the correct email beneath. Please note that you can only apply for one of the bursary schemes:

Calendar

• All the documents must be sent to the EYFDMBursaries2025@guarant.cz or YDMWorldBursaries2025@guarant.cz by the the 30 April 2025.
• The applicants will be informed about results through emails by the 31 May 2025.

Other requirements

• The applicant will be asked to describe her/his experience (using 250–500 words) within one month after attending the event.
• The applicant will be asked to send the proof of incurred costs (e.g.bills, invoices).
• The applicant has to attend both events: WONCA World Conference 2025 and the YDM Preconference 2025.

• The reimbursement will be given up to two months after finalising mentioned above requirements.

Jury

The selection of the bursary scheme recipients will be made by a Jury made up of representatives from YDM/WONCA World (World bursary) and EYFDM (Europe bursary) respectively who will evaluate the application forms.

Exclusion criteria

To receive the bursary you must:

• Be a young family physician (a family medicine trainee or up to 5 years after finishing training, valid in September 2025) [https://www.globalfamilydoctor.com/groups/YoungDoctorsMovements].

• Be a member of a WONCA National Member Organisation of WONCA (valid on the 30 April 2025) [https://www.globalfamilydoctor.com/AboutWonca/Regions.aspx].

• Prove your attendance at both the WONCA World Conference and the YDM Preconference in Lisbon.

• Send a report of your experience within one month after the event.

• Not live in Portugal.

• Not be a winner of a previous WONCA / EYFDM (previously VdGM) fund or scholarship.

Consent

By applying for the Fund, the applicant agrees to:

• Their photo being used for publicity purposes on the WONCA Europe/ EYFDM social media channels and/or website.
• The publication of their report about the attended events (live and/or virtual) for publicity purposes on the WONCA Europe/ EYFDM social media channels and/or website.

The first two consents aim to disseminate the value of participation in the mentioned events and raise awareness of the significance of the Fund. The personal data can be omitted at the request of the candidate.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR)

Providing your personal information is compulsory to prepare the logistics for your attendance at the WONCA World Conference 2025 and YDM Preconference 2025 in Lisbon. You may decline to provide your personal data. In this case, however, you will not be able to duly and validly prepare your conference registration and travel and you will lose your entitlement for this Fund. WONCA World and GUARANT International, as data processing controllers, collect and use only personal data necessary to allow for the sound management of the bursary, as suggested in this document. Your personal data will not be shared with any third party and will only be kept as long as necessary for the purposes related to the bursary (i.e. audit of relevant budgets). In accordance with the GDPR, you have a right to access, modify, rectify and delete data that you accept to share. Under certain circumstances, by law you have also the right to:

• define directives concerning the management of your personal information after your death;

• object, in whole or in part, to processing of your personal information;

• request the restriction of processing of your personal information;

• request the portability, where applicable, or your personal information;
